With its surprise defeat of Alabama in the NCAA football championship game, the Georgia Bulldogs will enjoy their due recognition Saturday.

A parade and ceremony are planned in Athens to mark the title.

"All tickets are complimentary and will be available to season ticket holders and UGA students Tuesday through Thursday through an online request form," athletics officials said in a fox5atlanta.com report.

With that deadline past, the general public now can put in ticket requests.

Georgia was ranked third going into the game in Indianapolis against top-ranked Alabama, a team that has been in the four-team playoff scheme almost every year since the system was established in 2014.

Both teams’ defenses were locked in during the first half, as both sides were held to field goals. Alabama had a 9-6 lead at the half.

It was late in the third when Georgia went on an 80-yard drive, which Zamir White capped with a 1-yard scoring run. After the extra point, the Dawgs had a 13-9 lead.

The Crimson Tide closed the gap with another field goal, then finally scored a touchdown themselves, to go up 18-12. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

After that, it was all Georgia. The team scored three more times to win 33-18. It was Georgia’s first football championship in 41 years.

The campus opens to visitors at 7 a.m. Saturday, with stadium gates opening at noon. The parade starts at 12:30, and a Dawg Walk and formal ceremony will follow.
