State Representatives Viola Davis, Rhonda Burnough, Sheila Jones, Edna Jackson, Mekyah McQueen, and Terry Cummings have introduced House Resolution 401 in recognition of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Day at the State Capitol. This resolution acknowledges March 3, 2025, as "Delta Day," celebrating the contributions of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
The legislators issued a statement saying: “On this Delta Day at the Capitol, we honor the powerful legacy of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – a sisterhood built on service, leadership and advocacy. Since their historic participation in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March, Deltas have remained at the forefront of social change... Let us honor the remarkable women who laid the foundation of our sisterhood and continue their legacy with pride and purpose.”
This resolution commemorates 112 years since the sorority's founding by 22 young women on January 13, 1913. The organization began at Howard University with a focus on public service and participated prominently in early suffrage movements despite racial challenges.
Additionally, these representatives hosted a Morning Order to mark Delta Day celebrations on March 3rd.
