The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the awarding of eight projects for construction and safety improvements in January. One project was initially deferred but later awarded this month.
The largest construction investment from the January Letting is approximately $4.2 million, designated for a roundabout at the intersection of State Route (SR) 74 and SR 42 in Monroe County. The second-largest project, valued at around $3.7 million, involves constructing a roundabout at SR 124 at SR 60 and Sam Freeman Road (CR 17) in Jackson County, which also includes installing an intersection video detection system.
These projects, along with four additional construction projects—three bridges and one more roundabout—constitute 82% of the total allocated funds, amounting to $18.6 million.
A $3.9 million safety project represents 18% of the allotted funds and focuses on intersection improvements, including a stop-controlled Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) intersection on SR 53 at Brownlee Mountain Road/Plainville Road in Gordon County.
With these awards, the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2025 have reached $1.27 billion. This figure includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2025 began on July 1, 2024.
The previously deferred project now awarded represents an investment of $36.5 million. This construction project will widen and reconstruct nearly 2.4 miles of additional lanes on Bell Ferry Road beginning north of Victory Drive and extending south of Port Victoria Way in Cherokee County.
Contractors and consultants interested in bidding or performing work must prequalify with Georgia DOT.
