The 16@95 Improvement Projects are making significant progress in the widening of Interstate 16 between the I-95 and I-516 interchanges. This development aims to increase the existing general-purpose lanes from two to three lanes in each direction. At the I-516 interchange, bridge and roadway widening will address current lane drops and weaving conditions. The westbound ramp from I-516 to I-16 will have a new dedicated lane, removing the short merge.

As part of the construction process, traffic on I-16 westbound will soon shift onto a newly constructed section of the bridge over Bunger Pit Road and CSX rail lines. Two outside lanes in both directions will remain open while inside lanes are closed for median barrier wall construction. The final portions of the existing bridge will be demolished, allowing crews to complete the new bridge's inside lanes. Once finished, all travel lanes with full-width shoulders will open.

The substantial completion of all bridges and roadways is anticipated by Q3 2025, with final acceptance expected in late Q4 2025. Georgia DOT plans to open sections as they are completed. Community engagement opportunities include speaking events by project team members upon request via their website.
