Georgia Rep. Mesha Mainor made headlines back in early July when she chose to break with the rest of her party and moved from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party over a vote dealing with funding for public schools and school choice. She explained her choice was based on the amount of funding Democrats were giving to immigrants at the border while school children in their same neighborhood weren’t able to properly learn to read in their schools.

"Democrats will say anything to try to get someone who is not knowledgeable to vote for them," Mainor said.

Mainor was a guest on the Aug. 11 episode of the Chicago Morning Answer show with Dan Proft. She talked about the welcome she received from the Republican Party and the anger and ridicule from the Democratic Party, with very few exceptions.

Speaking on school choice, Mainor said the parents in her district were fed up with the massive school districts that continue to fail the students.

“They voted for me twice with [a Republican ideal],” she said. “I have the most charter schools in my district than any other district in the state of Georgia. My parents want change.”

Proft brought up the topic of Democrats, and black Democrats, in big cities like Atlanta now requesting increased police presence because of soaring crime rates, despite the major movement a few years ago to defund law enforcement agencies.

“People profit off of ignorance and people not knowing,” Mainor said. “Now Democrats want to say ‘We never said that.’ They’re on tape saying they want to defund the police.”

Mainor said that the parents in her district were also grateful to see additional law enforcement in their neighborhoods, despite Democrats saying otherwise.

“Democrats will say anything to try to get someone who is not knowledgeable to vote for them, and that is another reason why I left the party: Because I don’t believe in lying to people to get a vote,” Mainor said.
