A recent survey conducted by the League of American Workers (LAW) reveals that Georgia voters believe, by a margin of more than four-to-one, that the country is on the wrong track. Furthermore, 61 percent of Georgians feel that the American Dream is out of reach for most people in the state.
According to North Star Opinion Research, independent voters also expressed concerns about the direction of the country. The research showed that these voters believed the country was off on the wrong track by an even higher 81-to-12 percent margin. Moreover, 67 percent of independents stated that they believe the American Dream is unattainable for Georgians.
The North Star Opinion Research survey also highlighted concerns among voters regarding housing costs as one of the most significant impacts from inflation. Among this group, only 25 percent believed that the American Dream was within reach.
Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates a rise in housing costs in Georgia. In December 2023, housing costs in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro area were up 4.8 percent over December 2022. During this same period, shelter costs increased by 5.7 percent.
The Zillow Home Values Index further underscores this trend. As of December 31, 2023, it reported that the typical home value in Georgia stood at $315,612 — a staggering increase of 55.3 percent since January 2020.
LAW, established in 2022, conducts research and develops proposals for public policies impacting American workers and their economy.
