The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road work across Southeast Georgia, which will continue from March 22 to March 28. The department cautions drivers to slow down and remain alert in work zones due to potential traffic interruptions.

Key projects include lane closures on Interstate 95 in Camden and Chatham counties for bridge repairs and sign improvements. On Interstate 16, nightly lane closures are scheduled in Chatham and Bulloch counties for bridge jacking and structural repairs.

Several roads will be closed with detours in place, including Antioch Church Road in Clinch County for bridge replacement and Birdford Lake Road in Tattnall County for storm damage repairs. In Wayne County, Rayonier Road is undergoing roundabout construction.

Bridge maintenance is underway on US 84/SR 38 at Doctors Creek in Long County, with a westbound bridge replacement project that includes an on-site detour. Similarly, the northside of the bridge over Satilla River in Pierce/Ware Counties is closed for replacement.

Resurfacing efforts are planned on SR 38/US 84 in Liberty County and SR 27 in Telfair County, among others. Additionally, various other traffic interruptions are anticipated throughout the region as part of road widening and paving operations.

Motorists should anticipate delays and check real-time updates by calling 511 or visiting the GDOT website. The department emphasizes its commitment to maintaining safe and efficient transportation systems across Georgia.

"Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways," stated GDOT officials. "We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs."

The department aims to enhance Georgia's competitiveness through leadership in transportation innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility.
