State Representative Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) has been appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters.

“This issue of navigable streams is extremely important to my constituents in North Georgia, and I am grateful that Speaker Burns appointed me to serve on this crucial study committee this year as we continue to examine this complex topic,” said Rep. Chastain. “House District 7 is blessed with abundant natural resources, including lakes and streams, that are enjoyed by both residents and tourists, and, therefore, I have a vested interest in this subject matter. I am looking forward to working with my House colleagues as we study legislative solutions that will satisfy both private property owners and outdoor enthusiasts.”

The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters was established following the adoption of House Resolution 1554 during the 2024 legislative session. This study committee will examine aspects of navigable streams in the state, issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use, and other related matters. It may make recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.

Speaker Burns also appointed State Representatives Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), Al Williams (D-Midway), John Corbett (R-Lake Park), James Burchett (R-Waycross), along with Mr. Jud Turner as the non-legislative member.
