The Georgia House Democratic Caucus has chosen State Representative Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus) as the House Minority Leader for the upcoming 2025-2026 legislative term. The election took place during caucus elections on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Rep. Hugley expressed her gratitude to the caucus for their confidence in her leadership abilities. "I am grateful to the caucus for their faith in me to serve as the next Minority Leader," she stated. She emphasized the need for leadership and change, saying, "Georgians are looking to us for leadership and need us to stand and fight for them. I have heard from our constituents, and they are concerned at the current status of our state and country – they want change."
She further elaborated on her vision for her tenure: "We must work to be that change and establish solutions for our great state with clarity, force, truth and persistence. I look forward to the next legislative session, where we will endeavor to ensure that Georgians’ concerns are addressed and good policy is executed."
As House Minority Leader, Rep. Hugley will lead the House Democratic Caucus. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1993, marking this as her inaugural term in this leadership role.
