The Georgia House of Representatives' Committee on Assignments has appointed State Representative Mitchell Horner to the position of Vice Chairman of the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term. In addition to this role, Rep. Horner will serve on the Retirement and Transportation committees and has been reappointed to the Small Business Development Committee.
Rep. Horner expressed his gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I am honored to serve as Vice Chairman of the House Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term. I want to thank the Speaker for the trust he has placed in me with this important responsibility." He emphasized his commitment to working with colleagues "to conduct thorough reviews of state agencies" ensuring compliance with state code and maintaining legislative intent during rule-making processes. Additionally, he looks forward to advocating policies that enhance economic strength, infrastructure improvement, and support small businesses across Georgia.
House Speaker Jon Burns highlighted ongoing efforts toward government transparency led by this committee. “Our government works best when it’s working for the people—and that includes our departments and agencies,” said Speaker Burns. Since 2013, there have been initiatives aimed at removing obstacles to business growth statewide. Under Chairman Tarvin's leadership, these initiatives will focus on reducing bureaucratic regulations while promoting transparency and efficiency within state agencies.
The committee's primary task involves reviewing state agencies' operations to ensure adherence to codes and proper reflection of legislative intent in both appropriation and rule-making processes. Representative Horner is expected to leverage his expertise in budgetary matters towards achieving fiscal responsibility regarding taxpayer funds.
