DeKalb County House Delegation elects leaders for upcoming legislative term

Members of the DeKalb County House Legislative Delegation have elected their leadership team for the 2025-2026 legislative term. State Representative Karla Drenner, representing Avondale Estates, has been chosen as Chair. State Representative Viola Davis from Stone Mountain will serve as Vice Chair, and State Representative Long Tran of Dunwoody will take on the role of Secretary.

“It is a privilege to continue serving as Chair of this outstanding delegation,” said Rep. Drenner. “DeKalb County is home to some of Georgia’s most diverse and dynamic communities, and our delegation remains committed to advancing policies that promote equity, economic growth and quality of life for all residents. I look forward to working with my colleagues to address key issues that matter to our constituents.”

Rep. Davis expressed her gratitude for being elected Vice Chair: “Stepping into the role of Vice Chair is an incredible opportunity to help shape policy and strengthen our legislative efforts for DeKalb County,” she said. “I am grateful for the trust placed in me by my colleagues and will continue advocating for transparency, accountability and meaningful solutions that benefit all of our communities.”

Rep. Tran commented on his new position as Secretary: “As secretary, I am excited to ensure our delegation remains engaged, accessible and effective in communicating with the people of DeKalb County,” he stated. “We will continue to work together to champion initiatives that improve education, infrastructure and community development.”

The officers are expected to play a significant role in advancing legislative initiatives impacting DeKalb County directly. Their leadership aims at ensuring effective meetings, policy discussions, and community outreach efforts.

The next meeting of the DeKalb County Legislative Delegation is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025, at noon or upon adjournment in room 502 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta. DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran Johnson is set to address the delegation during this meeting.
