Contractors are set to open the newly constructed Waynesboro Truck Route to traffic on Friday, February 21, 2025. This follows a ribbon-cutting event scheduled at the project's western endpoint. The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. near the new roundabout intersection at SR 24/SR 56 and Lover’s Lane.
The new roadway extends from this roundabout for 0.2 miles on Lover’s Lane and continues to its eastern endpoint at the SR 121/US 25 intersection with Industrial Drive. Reeves Construction Company undertook the construction of the new 2.1-mile roadway and roundabout, working within an approved budget of $4,471,195 funded through TIA.
Georgia DOT's Transportation Investment Act (TIA) program facilitates infrastructure projects chosen by community leaders via a voter-approved one-cent sales tax. The Central Savannah River Area's regional roundtable included the Waynesboro Truck Route in its investment list from 2013-2022, aiming to enhance large commercial truck traffic efficiency and safety by rerouting it west of the city. Local residents are expected to benefit from reduced traffic congestion and a direct corridor with increased lane capacity.
