On February 27, 2025, Senator Sonya Halpern's legislation, Senate Bill 182, known as the "Georgia Music Office and Music Ready Communities Act," was unanimously approved by the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism. The bill aims to establish a Georgia Music Office under the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Senator Halpern emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Georgia has a long and rich musical history, but growth does not just happen on its own. The creation of a Georgia Music Office is a smart, strategic step that will solidify our state as a leader in the industry into the future.” She further noted that the state's music industry is valued at $5 billion and highlighted that other states recognize music as economic development.

The proposed office would certify cities and counties as “Music Friendly Georgia Certified Communities.” These communities would be required to form local advisory boards to foster music-related economic development. If passed, Georgia would join Texas and North Carolina in having a dedicated statewide music office.

Senator Sonya Halpern serves as Democratic Caucus Vice Chair and represents the 39th Senate District in Fulton County. She can be contacted for further information via phone or email.
