The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a significant project in Fayette County. The focus is the replacement of a bridge on State Route 85 over Whitewater Creek, which lies 3.9 miles northwest of Brooks. The project, spanning a length of approximately 0.26 miles, will commence 620 feet west of the current bridge abutment and conclude 620 feet to the east. The new formation will feature a bridge measuring 210 feet in length and 43.25 feet in width, positioned at the existing site along the roadway centerline.

During the construction phase, a temporary detour bridge will be established to the south of the current bridge. This measure is set to facilitate movement as an on-site detour for the duration of the work. The project underscores the need for motorists transiting this route to anticipate possible delays, exhibit caution, and reduce speed in the work zones.

To stay informed about the status of work and traffic conditions, the department encourages the public to utilize resources such as the phone line 511, the website 511ga.org, or the Georgia 511 app. In alignment with health safety measures, the maintenance and project teams are actively continuing their duties, ensuring the roadworks progress while adhering to recommended sanitary practices.###
