In a recent update, the Georgia Department of Transportation provided details on several ongoing and upcoming projects across Bartow, Gordon, Cherokee, and Pickens Counties.
In Bartow County, the reconstruction of Highway 41 bridges over State Route 293 is underway, with the current completion date set for December 2025. Construction crews are installing a retaining wall on the northbound side in preparation for the removal of the northbound bridge. During this time, traffic will be shifted to the southbound bridge, reducing traffic in both directions to one lane. Additionally, the widening of Old Alabama Road from SR 113 to Paga Mine Road continues, with a current completion date of June 2025. Storm drain installation is in progress along with the work on three bridges along the route.
Gordon County is also seeing significant infrastructure improvements. The reconstruction of SR 136 bridges over the Coosawattee River is targeted for completion in December 2025, as work progresses on the eastbound bridge. After the bridge is finished, traffic will shift to it to allow for the demolition of the westbound bridge. Efforts to construct a Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) on SR 53 at Brownlee Road/Plainville Road are expected to commence soon, with a projected completion date of March 2026. Furthermore, intersection improvements at SR 156 and US 41/Wall Street are proceeding, with utility relocation currently underway and overall completion anticipated by April 2026.
Cherokee and Pickens Counties do not have any ongoing construction projects at this time.
The Georgia Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect delays, practice caution, and reduce their speed in work zones. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, travelers are encouraged to use the 511 service via phone, website, or app. Maintenance and project teams continue their essential work while adhering to sanitary practices recommended by health agencies to ensure the safety of both workers and the public in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
