The Georgia Chamber of Commerce chose three state legislators for its 2021 Legislator of the Year award, naming a Savannah senator and representatives from Bonaire and Blairsville.
The Executive Committee of the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council annually chooses one Senate member, one House member and one freshman legislator for the awards. This year the top legislators were Sen. Ben Watson (R-Savannah), Rep. Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) and Rep. Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), a press release by the chamber said.
“Throughout my tenure in the state Senate, I have held my relationship with the Georgia Chamber and the business community in the highest regard. I’m honored to receive this esteemed award from an organization who understands the unique relationship that business and government must maintain to ensure our continued successes for our job creators, workforce and families alike,” Watson said, the chamber reported.
Blackmon told the chamber that it is important that the state continue to focus on recovering after the pandemic.
“It is crucial during this time of recovery that we focus on businesses and employers as the drivers of Georgia’s economy. I look forward to continuing to work with the Georgia Chamber to enact smart, flexible policy to help us recover and make our state more resilient,” Blackmon said.
Gunter told the chamber he's proud to be a pro-business, pro-jobs legislator. His priority remains keeping the state health and safe as he helps Georgia businesses recover and grow stronger.
