Sen. Jon Ossoff secured $100 million for broadband internet connectivity across Georgia as a result of the U.S. Senate approving the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in August, according to a report by Fox 31.
The senator also noted the Affordability Connectivity Benefit within the bill, which would help ensure that every Georgia resident, regardless of income, can afford internet access.
’I’d like senators and congresspeople who are very on here and on cable TV to take note of Senator Ossof," Qondi Ntini said on Twitter. "He’s traveling across Georgia during recess to promote the infrastructure plan down to dollar amounts and category of spending. He is working for and not against progress.’’
Ossoff, who has been working on the legislation with other lawmakers for months, said that if the bill is fully approved by the House it could establish a series of other beneficial programs, according to the Valdosta Daily Times.
Additionally, the legislation would provide additional funding for transit in low-income and low-density regions, ensuring that more Georgians have access to public transportation while boosting economic opportunity, according to a tweet from Ossoff's office.
Other provisions of the bill would invest substantial amounts of money in a variety of projects both in Georgia and across the country, including road and highway maintenance and lead pipe removal from structures, the Valdosta Daily Times reported.
