To describe Georgia freshman forward Jillian Hollingshead as a quick study to the collegiate game is an understatement as the Powder Springs native has tipped off 2022 with her second consecutive Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor.

According to a University of Georgia news release, Hollingshead is the second Bulldog in almost five years to earn the accolade back-to-back. Caliya Robinson achieved the feat in 2016.

“Hollingshead has been impressive in her first season at Georgia,” the program said on its website Jan. 4. “[On Jan. 2], she totaled eight points in 18 minutes to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their ninth-straight win against the Florida Gators. She played particularly well in the second half, scoring six points, including an important putback late in the third quarter.”

The team added that Hollingshead recorded her first career double-digit scoring effort (12 points in 15 minutes) in No. 17 UGA’s 89-50 victory over South Alabama four days before Christmas.

“She was perfect on the day against the Jaguars, knocking in 4-for-4 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line,” the release said.

A steady offensive contributor for the Bulldogs, Hollingshead has appeared in 13 of 14 games and has scored eight or more points in six of those contests, according to the university.

Hollingshead’s two straight SEC Freshman of the Week nods make it three consecutive weeks in which a Bulldogs player has earned a conference accolade.

Senior center Jenna Staiti was bestowed ESPN National Player of the Week on Dec. 20 for her 21-point, 11-rebound performance in UGA’s 82-80 victory over fourth-ranked N.C. State on Dec. 16.
