Georgia women's tennis coach Jeff Wallace has announced the signing of Chelsea Fontenel to the program.
Georgia Associate Head Coach Brake Bernstein described Fontenel as a focused and driven athlete, expressing excitement to see her thrive in her college years at the University of Georgia, a recent release issued on the Bulldog's website said.
"We are thrilled about Chelsea joining the Bulldog family," Bernstein said in the release. "She brings more international experience and a strong work ethic to our program."
A native of Switzerland, Fontenel has ranked as high as No. 38 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings, the release said. She won the J4 Frankfurt in Germany in 2021, and in 2019 she won the J5 Bayamón in Puerto Rico—both on hard courts.
During her career, Fontenel has played in all four Junior Grand Slams, reaching the round of 32 at the French Open and the quarterfinals in doubles at Wimbledon, the release said.
March 4 marked the first match of the season as the team faced off against the Ole Miss Rebels in the SEC opener.
