The University of Georgia has named former University of Florida coach Mike White as the new head coach for the Bulldog's men basketball team in a deal that was reached in just a few hours.
White was introduced by university President Jere Morehead and athletic director Josh Brooks to a crowd of fans, students and staff, the Bulldogs reported in a release.
White said leaving Florida and uprooting his family was a tough decision to make, the Bulldogs reported.
"The upside, the ceiling, the potential, and it is going to happen," White said in the release. "It is going to happen here at Georgia, and I'm committed to helping them make that happen."
White, 45, spent seven seasons as the Gators' head coach and had an 11-3 record against the Bulldogs during his time in Florida, the Bulldogs reported. White had a 142-88 coaching for Florida and was named 2017 SEC Coach of the Year with an overall 75-52 record in conference games.
White took the Gators to the 2017 Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, having made it to the second round on three other occasions, the Bulldogs reported.
