The third week of the 2025 Legislative Session in Georgia has concluded, with lawmakers focusing on passing legislation aimed at benefiting families, businesses, and communities. Despite a brief delay due to snow, budget hearings resumed as the General Assembly continued its work in joint sessions.

A significant proposal under consideration is Governor Brian P. Kemp’s plan to return $1 billion in surplus funds directly to taxpayers. This initiative is part of a larger $2.2 billion allocation intended to support various sectors across the state. "Thanks to years of conservative budgeting and fiscal responsibility, we can give back to the hardworking Georgians who keep our state running," stated Sen. Mike Hodges.

Additionally, efforts are underway to aid communities affected by Hurricane Helene. Gov. Kemp has suggested $614.72 million for recovery funding, which includes $150 million for emergency assistance and debris removal, alongside $300 million earmarked for infrastructure restoration via the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Legislative priorities also include advancing bills focused on public safety. Senate Bill 27 aims to protect individuals from stalking and doxing by establishing criminal penalties for such actions. Another bill, Senate Bill 29, seeks to streamline DNA collection processes for felony arrests.

Senator Hodges reported engaging with Glynn County commissioners and officials from both the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources on matters important to local constituents.

Hodges also encourages students aged 12-18 to apply for the Senate Page Program as an educational opportunity to observe legislative processes firsthand.

"Regardless of political agenda, the safety and wellbeing of Georgians is always a top priority for all State Senators," affirmed Sen. Hodges.
