The third week of the 2025 Legislative Session in Georgia has ended, with a focus on passing legislation aimed at benefiting families, businesses, and communities. Despite delays caused by a snowstorm, the General Assembly has been reviewing budget requests to ensure efficient use of taxpayer money.

A significant proposal this session is Governor Brian P. Kemp's plan to return $1 billion in surplus funds to taxpayers. This is part of a broader $2.2 billion allocation intended to support various sectors across Georgia. "Thanks to years of conservative budgeting and fiscal responsibility, we’re in a position to give back to the hardworking Georgians who keep our state running," said Sen. Carden Summers.

Efforts are also being made to assist communities affected by Hurricane Helene, with Gov. Kemp proposing $614.72 million for recovery funding. This includes $150 million for debris removal and housing assistance from the Governor’s Emergency Fund and $300 million for infrastructure restoration through the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Senator Summers highlighted his sponsorship of Senate Bill 43, which seeks to update property qualifications related to conservation use and residential transition property. He is also sponsoring Senate Bill 13 concerning natural gas facilities projects.

Senator Summers encourages students aged 12-18 to apply for the Senate Page Program as an opportunity to learn about legislative processes firsthand.

Senator Carden Summers serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions and represents several counties in Georgia's 13th Senate District.
