Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced changes to his legal team, following the departure of Kristyn Long from her role as Executive Counsel. Long will assume the position of General Counsel for the Georgia Hospital Association starting February 14. Sam Hatcher is set to take over as Executive Counsel, while Christine Hayes and Rachel Byers will continue in their roles as Deputy Executive Counsel and Associate Executive Counsel, respectively. Evan Meyers also left his position at the end of January after more than three years as Deputy Executive Counsel.

"Marty, the girls, and I are excited to welcome Sam to this leadership role as Executive Counsel and for the continued service of the entire legal team, which remains indispensable to my office and the success of this administration," stated Governor Brian Kemp. "We are confident their commitment and hard work will help us keep Georgia the best state in which to live, work, and raise a family."

Governor Kemp expressed gratitude towards Kristyn Long for her contributions during challenging times: "We also want to thank Kristyn for her years of service and leadership at a time when our state faced unprecedented challenges," he said. He praised her intellect and relentless work across multiple roles, congratulating her on her new position.

Evan Meyers was also acknowledged by Kemp for his service: "We also want to thank Evan for his years of service and sacrifice, improving legislation and helping us streamline agency regulations." As Meyers moves closer to family with his own loved ones, Kemp extended well wishes for their future.

Sam Hatcher's background includes serving as Deputy Executive Counsel in Governor Kemp's office. Before joining the Governor’s staff, he worked in private practice focusing on securities litigation among other areas. He holds degrees from Dartmouth College and the University of Georgia.

Christine Hayes previously served as Director of Governmental Affairs for the State Bar of Georgia before becoming Deputy Executive Counsel under Governor Kemp. She holds degrees from the University of Florida and Emory University.

Rachel Byers serves as Associate Executive Counsel after clerking for Georgia Supreme Court Justice Verda M. Colvin. She holds degrees from the University of Georgia.
