The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road work in Southeast Georgia, scheduled from March 8 to March 14. The department advises motorists to expect potential delays and exercise caution while navigating through work zones.

Work will be conducted on various interstates, including I-95 and I-16, as well as on several state routes. Notable projects include overnight lane closures on I-95 at the Florida State Line in Camden County for bridge repairs and concrete footer pouring for signs in Chatham County. In addition, there are nightly lane closures planned along sections of I-16 in Chatham and Bulloch Counties for structural repairs and deck replacement.

Bridge construction and maintenance are also underway across multiple counties. Projects include bridge replacements over Doctors Creek in Long County and Satilla River in Pierce/Ware Counties. Resurfacing efforts are set to occur on SR 38/US 84 in Liberty County, among other locations.

Motorists should be aware of bridge and road closures with detours, such as Antioch Church Road over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County, which is closed for a bridge replacement until August 2025.

The GDOT emphasizes the importance of safety: "Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers."

For real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status, drivers can call 511 or visit the website 511ga.org. The Georgia DOT's mission is to enhance transportation systems with a focus on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility.

"Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways," states the GDOT. "We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs."
