FOIA Request to Elbert County Election Department Regarding Information of Candidates Running in the Upcoming Spring Election on February 5, 2025.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent by Peach Tree Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. The request was made under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., and asked for details about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
The information requested includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, as well as the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.
Furthermore, Peach Tree Times has requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.
