State Representative Floyd Griffin has put forward two new legislative proposals in Georgia. The proposed House Bills 40 and 203 aim to adjust the composition of key state boards. If passed, HB 40 would enable the Secretary of State to act as chair of the State Election Board, a role currently filled through election by the General Assembly and certification by the governor.
In a statement about his legislative efforts, Rep. Griffin expressed his eagerness to collaborate with colleagues for community betterment. "As I begin my first term in the Georgia House after previously serving in our state’s Senate, I look forward to working with old and new friends in supporting legislation to better our communities and state," he stated.
The second proposal, HB 203, seeks to ensure representation from historically black colleges or universities (HBCUs) on the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents. This bill mandates that at least one at-large board member be an HBCU graduate.
Rep. Griffin emphasized the significance of these bills for state representation: “These two bills seek to do just that – improve our state and communities." He noted that HB 40 would help reflect voters' interests on the election board while HB 203 would guarantee HBCU representation within Georgia's university system governance.
Griffin concluded by expressing gratitude for his colleagues' support and anticipation for the bills' progression through legislative channels. “I am grateful for the support of my legislative colleagues on these two pieces of legislation and look forward to their movement through the Georgia General Assembly,” he said.
