The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures as part of the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. These closures are set to occur from February 24 through March 1, 2025, weather permitting.
This construction aims to reconstruct system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east and I-285 north of the interchange.
During daytime hours from February 24 to March 1, single right or left-lane and shoulder closures will take place on I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, flagging operations will be conducted on Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive from February 24 through February 28.
Overnight closures from February 24 to March 1 include single to double lane closures on I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange. Flagging operations will also occur on Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass during this period.
On both southbound and northbound directions of I-285 near Glenwood and Columbia respectively, there will be overnight lane closures. Similarly, alternating lane closures are scheduled for both directions of I-20 between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road during nighttime hours.
Traffic pacing operations are planned for several segments including I-20 Westbound from Wesley Chapel Road to Columbia Drive as well as sections involving both eastbound and westbound traffic near the interchange.
The Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed with a detour in place until approximately September 2025. For further details regarding these changes or updates in schedules due to weather conditions, stakeholders are encouraged to refer directly to official communications by Georgia DOT.
