State Representative Yasmin Neal of Jonesboro, in collaboration with state investigators, has successfully arranged for rent refunds and temporary rent reductions for senior citizens at Renaissance Garden Walk Senior Living Apartments in Clayton County. This decision comes after residents expressed their concerns during a delegation meeting.
Rep. Neal explained the process: “The citizens of my district at the Renaissance senior living facility in Clayton County came to a delegation meeting and voiced their concerns.” Following this, she engaged with various stakeholders including the owner of the company and the State Department of Community Affairs (DCA). An investigative team from DCA was dispatched to examine the situation, accompanied by Rep. Neal.
“We visited with each of the residents as DCA began their investigation,” she stated. The investigation uncovered a violation of protocol, leading to the decision to issue refunds and reduce rents for six months. Rep. Neal emphasized her commitment to service: “It has been an honor to have been able to answer the call to service in this moment – this is what service is about.”
She also highlighted the importance of action by elected officials: “Elected officials cannot stand by while our citizens are harmed. We must act, and we must do something.” Expressing gratitude towards DCA’s swift response, she added, “I am so grateful for the partnership with DCA – well done. I want to personally thank Commissioner Chris Nunn and his team for activating and responding so quickly to help the senior citizens!”
