The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a Public Information Open House (PIOH) comment period starting February 27 for the proposed SR 404 Spur/US 17 at Savannah River Crossing Project. This project aims to explore long-term improvement alternatives for the existing bridge over the Savannah River. The public is encouraged to submit comments until March 27, 2025.

An in-person open house is scheduled for March 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah. Attendees will have the opportunity to review project materials and engage with subject-matter experts present at the event. No formal presentation will be given. For those unable to attend, project information and a comment form are accessible online.

The Port of Savannah, recognized as the fastest growing port in the nation, plays a crucial role in regional and national economies. However, its growth is potentially limited by current bridge clearance restrictions for larger ships. The proposed project seeks to address this by increasing vertical clearance under the SR 404 Spur/US 17 bridge.

Comments can be submitted through various channels: written or spoken comments at the PIOH on March 13, an online form on the project website, via email at savannahriverxing@dot.ga.gov, through a recorded message on a hotline, or by mailing written comments to Georgia DOT's office.
