State Representative Carl Gilliard has announced the successful passage of House Bill 465, known as the Autism Missing Person Alert System Act, through the House Human Relations and Aging Committee. The bill received unanimous support and will now proceed to the House Rules Committee for further consideration.
Representative Gilliard expressed his satisfaction with the committee's decision, stating, "Today, I am proud to see House Bill 465, the Autism Missing Person Alert System Act, pass unanimously out of the House Human Relations and Aging Committee." He emphasized the importance of this legislation in providing necessary resources for individuals with autism spectrum disorder who may be at a higher risk of going missing. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in shaping this bill.
House Bill 465 proposes adding autism spectrum disorder to Mattie’s Call state-wide alert system for missing disabled adults. It aims to enhance search efforts by advising local law enforcement on prioritizing areas such as waterways and public roadways. Additionally, it suggests disclosing specific autism-related behaviors that might help identify a missing individual.
The next step for HB 465 is consideration by the House Rules Committee.
