NFIB, a prominent small business advocacy group, has initiated a radio and digital advertising campaign across Georgia. The campaign aims to persuade the state's General Assembly to pass Senate Bill 68, which seeks to address issues related to lawsuit abuse.
Hunter Loggins, NFIB State Director, emphasized the burden that excessive litigation costs place on small businesses in Georgia. "Small businesses are the backbone of Georgia’s economy, but many local businesses are struggling under the weight of excessive litigation costs," he stated.
Loggins further explained that Senate Bill 68 would enable Main Street businesses to concentrate on growth and job creation rather than dealing with unfair lawsuits. He remarked, “Senate Bill 68 would help Main Street businesses focus on growth, job creation, and serving their communities instead of wasting time and money fighting unfair lawsuits.”
While acknowledging individuals' rights to seek compensation for injuries, Loggins pointed out that some lawsuits are filed opportunistically. "If you’ve been injured, you have a right to seek compensation," he said. "But some cases are filed simply because someone sees an opportunity to make money."
A study conducted by The Perryman Group in 2024 for NFIB and Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) revealed that excessive lawsuits cost a family of four in Georgia an average of $5,592 annually and resulted in over 135,000 job losses statewide.
The campaign's radio ad highlights the impact of frivolous lawsuits on small businesses and advocates for Senate Bill 68 as a solution. It urges listeners to visit ProtectGeorgiaSmallBusiness.org for more information about the legislation and how they can support it.
The advertisement concludes with a call-to-action: “Visit ProtectGeorgiaSmallBusiness.org and tell legislators to stop lawsuit abuse. Paid for by the National Federation of Independent Business.”
