The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures on Interstate 16 and surrounding interchanges as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The project aims to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Weather permitting, these closures will facilitate necessary widening activities and bridge work.

Daytime lane closures are scheduled from Monday, March 24, through Saturday, March 29. During this period, intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., while similar closures on I-16 eastbound will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, there will be daytime closures on I-516 at its interchange with I-16.

Nighttime closures are also planned for the same dates from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., affecting both directions of travel on I-16 and portions of I-516 at their respective interchanges with additional double-lane closures expected on sections of I-95.

Motorists should be aware of detours in effect during these periods. Notably, from March 24 through April 12, those traveling eastbound on I-16 wishing to access westbound lanes on I-516 should follow designated alternative routes. Similarly, drivers heading southbound on I-95 looking to merge onto eastbound lanes of I-16 need to follow specific detour instructions provided by Georgia DOT.

A long-term closure remains in effect until May 31, 2025, impacting Tremont Road under Interstate 16.

Motorists are advised that exact times may change due to weather conditions and other factors. "There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice," according to Georgia DOT officials who urge drivers "to expect delays" and exercise caution when traveling through affected areas.

For real-time updates regarding traffic conditions or changes in work status, motorists can call Georgia's information line at "511", visit their website at "511ga.org", or use the Georgia 511 mobile app.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining state highways across Georgia while supporting local government road maintenance efforts. Their focus includes ensuring safety alongside promoting innovation within transportation systems statewide.
