The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced potential traffic impacts due to the 16@95 Improvement Projects, which involve widening I-16 and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Weather permitting, construction partners will close interstate lanes and ramps at specified locations for necessary activities related to this project.
From Monday, March 24, through Saturday, March 29, daytime closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with intermittent lane closures on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (MP 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (MP 157). Similar closures will occur on I-16 eastbound from MP 157 to MP 164 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on I-516 at the I-16 Interchange from MP 5 to MP 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Nighttime closures are planned for the same period from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., affecting both directions of I-16 and parts of I-516. Additionally, double-lane closures will take place on I-95 northbound at the I-16 overpass (MP 98 to MP 100) and southbound (MP 101 to MP 98) between March 24 and March 29 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Advance notice has been provided for detours scheduled nightly from March 24 through April 12. For example, motorists traveling on I-16 eastbound should use alternate routes via US Highway exits when accessing different interchanges during ramp closures.
A long-term closure is also in effect for Tremont Road under I-16 until May 31, requiring motorists to use Telfair Road or other designated detour routes.
Georgia DOT emphasizes that these schedules may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and encourages drivers to check daily traffic impacts and real-time alerts via Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org.
