Amazon received $27 million in subsidies, tax breaks, and grants from Georgia communities for five projects.

Advocacy group Good Jobs First, which opposes such subsidies, found Georgia provided the 25th-highest amount of grants and breaks among U.S. states to the nearly $1-trillion company.

Georgia is ranked behind Pennsylvania (4 projects/$30 million) and ahead of Mississippi (3 projects/$24 million), Iowa (2 projects/$22 million), and Kansas (2 projects/$22 million).

The most expensive subsidy provided in Georgia was by the Gwinnett government, which offered $19 million to Amazon in grants, tax credits, sales tax exemptions, and money for site preparation.

The second largest subsidy was worth $3 million for county tax abatements in an agreement with Fulton's municipal government.

There were no developments which received undisclosed subsidy amounts.

Georgia aggressively uses tax breaks and subsidies, many of which are never revealed to the public.

The state has focused on its film tax credit in recent years, costing Georgia taxpayers between $500 million and $1 billion annually.

As of Nov. 17, 2022, Amazon had received 310 separate tax break deals from local and state governments across the U.S., totaling $5.14 billion. The state of Virginia was home to the largest portion of these taxpayer-subsidized Amazon projects.
