Senator Billy Hickman has been appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth. The appointment was made by Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, announced on Monday.
"I am truly honored to have been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth by Lt. Governor Jones," said Senator Hickman. "As a long-time advocate for increasing childhood literacy rates in Georgia, I firmly believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed through access to quality education. Literacy is the cornerstone of learning, and I’m committed to advancing initiatives that ensure our students have the tools they need to thrive."
Senator Hickman also expressed his enthusiasm about continuing his service for another term. "It is also a privilege to continue serving the people of the 4th Senate District for a third term. Over the years, I have prioritized legislation that addresses the needs of our rural communities, fosters economic growth and improves educational outcomes. I am eager to build on this foundation during the 2025 Session."
Elected in 2020, Senator Hickman represents Georgia's 4th Senate District, which includes Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, and Evans County as well as a small portion of Chatham County. Besides his new role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth, he serves on several other committees: he is a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, Secretary of the Senate Committee on Finance, and an Ex-Officio member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military and Homeland Security.
