Senator Chuck Payne has been reappointed as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security. The decision was made by Lt. Governor Burt Jones and the Senate Committee on Assignments. Sen. Payne initially took on this role in January 2024 after beginning his service with the committee in 2023. His military background includes four years of service in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1988, where he was part of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The committee focuses on issues related to the welfare of military personnel across Georgia, disaster protection for citizens, and emergency management improvements.

"I am honored by Lt. Governor Jones for reappointing me to this position," stated Sen. Payne. "I’m privileged to advocate for the Georgians who have dedicated their lives to serving our country. These men and women protect our freedoms, and it’s our job as Senators to protect these individuals."

Senator Payne highlighted achievements from the last session that aimed at enhancing support for servicemen and women, including mental health resources and improved care for disabled veterans.

In addition to his chairmanship, Sen. Payne will serve as Vice Chairman on the Senate Committees on Science and Technology and Education and Youth; Secretary of the Senate Committee on Higher Education; and Ex-Officio on the Senate Committees on Children and Families and Public Safety.
