FOIA Request to Dooly County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Peach Tree Times have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Dooly County Election Department. The request was made for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The information requested includes the candidates' first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. We also asked for all contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe this request aligns with our role as a media professional eligible for a fee waiver.
Our aim is to use this information to inform the public about who is running in their local elections and provide them with an opportunity to engage directly with their potential representatives.
