The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced the continuation of essential road work across Southeast Georgia. This work, involving construction and maintenance projects, is scheduled from Saturday, February 22 through Friday, February 28.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed in work zones and remain vigilant for workers. The traffic interruptions are categorized by interstates and counties.

For Interstate 95, several projects are underway. In Camden County, repairs on the St. Marys River Bridge will cause overnight lane closures in both Florida and Georgia from February 22 to 28. In Chatham County, northbound and southbound left lanes will be closed nightly for concrete footer pouring for signs until April 29, 2025. Additional bridge maintenance and rehabilitation will occur at Crooked River in Camden County with nightly lane closures until March 2025.

Interstate 16 also faces nightly single left lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge for structural repairs until March 1, 2025. In Bulloch County, concrete pavement repair and striping will result in nightly lane closures.

Bridge and road closures with detours include Antioch Church Road over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County, Birdford Lake Road in Tattnall County, Post Road in Jeff Davis County, and Rayonier Road at Spring Grove Road in Wayne County.

The GDOT emphasizes that all schedules are subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through these areas. "Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways," states the department's release. "We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs."
