Construction work related to the I-16/I-75 interchange improvement project in Macon-Bibb County will continue from April 4 to April 11, 2025, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Traffic pacing will occur nightly on I-16 eastbound and westbound near Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Coliseum Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ongoing closures include Spring Street’s far right lane at the I-16 westbound on-ramp and the right-hand on-ramp to I-16 westbound, which will remain closed for several months. Construction work includes building new bridge structures, pouring bridge deck spans and edge beams, installing retaining walls along I-75, and completing various lighting installations.
The I-16/I-75 interchange project, valued at approximately $500 million, aims to enhance safety and mobility. Improvements involve new lanes, ramps, and bridge upgrades, expected to be completed by 2030.
The GDOT advised motorists to expect delays, proceed with caution, and stay informed through Georgia’s 511 services.
