Twiggs County is set to experience a traffic shift on State Route 96, now rescheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The shift will affect the stretch between mileposts 12 and 13. Approximately half a mile east of the beginning of the shift, the new section of SR 96 will reconnect with the existing divided four-lane segment approaching Interstate 16's interchange at Exit 24. Traffic on I-16 will remain unaffected as it lies outside the project boundaries.

Throughout this transition, two-way traffic flow will be maintained along the entire shifted route. However, D Street will be detoured from its current intersection with SR 96 to connect with Cranberry Lane before joining the new portion of SR 96. Other intersecting roads will remain open.

The traffic on SR 96 will move to a newly constructed section starting just west of where it intersects with D Street. This new roadway is situated further south compared to the existing one, which will close to traffic.

To inform drivers ahead of time, message boards and advanced warning signs are being used in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid this zone if possible and seek alternate routes. Updates or schedule changes can be followed on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter via @GDOTWest. Travelers should anticipate delays, drive cautiously, and slow down when passing through these zones.

For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, motorists can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
