The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has initiated a project to improve safety and infrastructure at 98 highway-rail crossings. This undertaking aims to upgrade highway signs and pavement markings at locations where public roads intersect at-grade railroad tracks.

The project specifically targets the Hartwell Railroad Company (HRT) line from Lavonia to Elberton, covering Franklin, Hart, and Elbert Counties. The goal is to enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians and to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow.

The contract for this project is valued at $398,808.95, and work is set to commence immediately with a completion target of December 31, 2025. Updates on the project can be followed on GDOT’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

GDOT’s mission involves planning, constructing, and maintaining Georgia’s transportation systems, ranging from highways to public transit and pedestrian programs. The department gears itself towards innovation and safety, aiming to improve Georgia's competitiveness with effective transportation leadership.
