City of Roswell recently issued the following announcement on September 15.
The City of Roswell Mayor and City Council have chosen Randy Knighton, City Manager of the City of Stockbridge, GA, as the finalist for Roswell's City Administrator position. During a September 14 Special Called City Council Meeting, the Mayor and City Council voted 4-3 to select Knighton. Over the next 14 days, the City will negotiate his contract before making a final vote on his appointment during a public meeting.
Knighton has been the City Manager of Stockbridge, in Henry County, since 2017. Before Stockbridge, Knighton was the Hall County Administrator from 2011-2017. He also has served as the Planning Director of the Hall County Planning Department. Before coming to Georgia, Knighton worked in planning departments in Orange County, the City of Orlando, and Osceola County in Florida.
Knighton earned a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University. He is a credentialed manager of the International City/County Management Association. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, and the Georgia Planning Association.
The City engaged the services of Athens-based Mercer Group Associates in May 2021 to conduct a national search for candidates.
If chosen as Roswell’s City Administrator, Knighton will serve as its chief operating officer, managing a $146 million budget, more than 30 departments, divisions and offices, and 600 full-time employees. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the City, and implement policies established by the Mayor and City Council to provide services to the citizens of Roswell in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner.
