The first week of the 2025 Legislative Session in Georgia has concluded. Senator Mike Hodges expressed his dedication to addressing key issues for Georgians under the Gold Dome.
Governor Kemp outlined a vision that includes increased funding for school safety, workforce enhancement, aid for those affected by Hurricane Helene, and expanded access to affordable healthcare. The aim is to secure Georgia’s economic future through investment in high-demand career opportunities.
Senator Hodges noted that while progress has been made, significant work remains. A priority is supporting recovery efforts in areas devastated by Hurricane Helene. Governor Kemp announced $100 million in initial funding, but ongoing efforts will be necessary.
"The Senate is committed to ensuring these communities have the necessary tools to rebuild," said Hodges. This involves financial assistance, streamlining rebuilding processes, and collaboration with federal and local partners.
Governor Kemp also emphasized tort litigation reform during his “State of the State” address. "We must work to reduce skyrocketing insurance premiums," he stated, highlighting Georgia's challenging legal climate as reported by the American Tort Reform Foundation.
Hodges announced his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting and Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions. He will also serve on various other committees.
As a Brunswick native, Hodges understands community challenges related to hurricanes and insurance coverage barriers. He aims to advocate for insurance needs across Georgia through his role on the Senate Committee on Insurance and Labor.
Additionally, Hodges invites students aged 12-18 to participate as a Senate Page during the Legislative Session, offering them insight into state government operations.
"It is an honor to serve the people of the 3rd Senate District," said Hodges, encouraging constituents to reach out with legislative concerns.
