Groundbreaking for City's New Parking Deck, Oct. 6; Construction to begin soon

1

City of Canton recently issued the following announcement.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 6, at 2 p.m., for the City of Canton's new parking deck, to be located on the corner of Archer Street and West Marietta Street. Construction will begin on the project in mid-October.

"I'm thrilled about our City's deck project," said City Manager Billy Peppers. "The forward thinking of our Roadmap for Success provides for sustainability options on this deck. We will add a solar array to the top of the deck to offset the power needs of the deck and provide a credit to offset our consumption at City Hall. We'll use our SPLOST funds to cover the project and our general fund will reap the future benefit of these offset electric costs. A win-win for Canton!"

The deck will feature two independent levels, the bottom level accessible from Archer Street and the second (or top) level accessible from behind City Hall. The top level will feature and be partially covered by an 80kw solar array as well as provide 10 electric car charging stations for public use, partly funded by a partnership with Georgia Power. Starting mid October and During construction, the current lot will be unavailable for parking. The new parking deck is expected to be completed in spring 2022.
