The 2025 Legislative Session in Georgia has begun, with the first week coming to a close. Senator Carden Summers expressed his commitment to addressing issues for Senate District 13 and all of Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp has outlined key initiatives focusing on school safety funding, workforce enhancement, aid for families affected by Hurricane Helene, and expanding affordable healthcare access.
Governor Kemp emphasized tort reform as a top priority during his "State of the State" address. Senator Summers is optimistic about passing these reforms this session. He introduced Senate Bill 13, which aims to authorize the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to finance projects related to natural gas facilities.
Recovery efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Helene remain urgent. Governor Kemp announced $100 million in initial funding to assist families, farmers, and businesses still dealing with the storm's aftermath. The Senate plans to expedite financial assistance and streamline permitting processes for rebuilding infrastructure.
At the Annual Eggs and Issues breakfast hosted by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Governor Kemp stressed the need for tort litigation reform due to Georgia's challenging legal climate. Efforts will focus on reducing insurance premiums and curbing frivolous lawsuits that burden businesses.
Senator Summers announced his reappointment as Chairman of the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities and is a member of other key committees focused on economic development, tourism, agriculture, and consumer affairs.
Senator Summers represents multiple counties within District 13 and remains available for legislative concerns from constituents.
