The Georgia General Assembly has reconvened for the 2025 Legislative Session, marking the beginning of a new biennium. Over the next 40 legislative days, Sen. Sheikh Rahman expressed his commitment to advocating for policies that promote equity and inclusivity across Georgia.

Sen. Rahman continues to serve on several Senate Committees, including Appropriations, Economic Development and Tourism, Government Oversight, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Urban Affairs. These committees will address critical issues such as budget allocation and environmental concerns while considering how best to serve Georgia's diverse population.

The first week of the session featured significant events like the annual Eggs & Issues gathering and Governor Brian P. Kemp's "State of the State" address. These events provided insights into various perspectives on business issues, citizen concerns, and public institution priorities in Georgia.

In response to Governor Kemp's address, Sen. Rahman stated: "While I welcome some of his proposals, including pay raises for teachers, state employees, and first responders and efforts to strengthen our healthcare workforce, I believe we must go further." He emphasized the importance of ensuring affordable healthcare access for all Georgians, expanding quality public education opportunities, investing in renewable energy solutions, and addressing affordable housing needs.

As Budget Week approaches in the second week of the session, attention will turn to financial priorities for the state. Leaders from state agencies are scheduled to present their budgetary requirements to the General Assembly starting Tuesday. Sen. Rahman highlighted that this period is about more than just numbers: "This is our chance to advocate for funding that reflects the needs of working families."

Senator Rahman represents Georgia’s rapidly growing 5th Senate District. He pledged collaboration with colleagues to ensure that district values are represented in state budgets.

Additionally, Sen. Rahman encourages students aged 12-18 to apply for a day as a Senate Page at the State Capitol through an educational program designed to engage young people with legislative processes.

For any inquiries or concerns during this legislative period, constituents are encouraged to contact Sen. Rahman's office.
